Q: What kind of experience/education is required for a Direct Support Staff?
A: PUSH Services seeks to hire individuals who are dependable, sensitive and caring, energetic, motivated, creative and flexible. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in effectively interacting with others, in both communicating with others and openly listening. Potential employees also must be able to work independently, while still capable of accepting supervision, guidance and feedback. Our employees must be open to learning new approaches and new ways of thinking. A: All new employees at PUSH Services receive new staff orientation, which includes training in comprehensive license and housing with services certificate policies and procedures, OSHA health and safety, HIPAA, working with persons with intellectual disabilities, behavior support, CPR, Positive Supports and First Aid. In addition, new employees also receive specific training about the needs of the consumers that they will be working. Other trainings as relevant to the services provided could be conducted during the year or as needed.
